Hamster Musings: A Love Affair

Peeping out from time to time,
Welcoming me to her domain: on her terms, her limits.
Unspoken expectations of me as the provider;
Needing my love but only briefly accepting it,
Without exception, I need hers more.
Whilst she perches on her balcony,
I call and call to this miniature bundle of unreciprocated joy.
Would she be as special by any other name?

Travelling afar by perpetual wheel, yet never leaving home.
A Parkour specialist:
A would-be Olympic champion – lithe, nimble, fiery-footed.
A nocturnal winner,
Shielded from fanatic gaze within her own four walls.
Remaining alert and astute, guarding her fortune:
Her priceless, bank vault of treasure.

Life-long, unrequited love?
It matters not.
The unspoken connection between us lasts until, in my arms,
She will take her last embrace.
