My BIG problem was with Kevin J. Anderson's "Saga of Seven Suns." Actually I can only claim knowledge of the last book as I haven't, and probably won't, read any of the others. If I don't time my holds well at my local library I can get caught short of listening material. This is the opportunity or fearsome threat of just picking something off the shelf and giving it a whirl. On the plus side, Anderson supplies a very good synopsis of the epic to the beginning of the last book. After that, I was not swept away. (I should add that this sort of browsing can result in delights like coming across Bujold's "the Curse of Chalion" which was worth enduring, for a disc or two, 100 last book of the Saga of Seven Suns, (beloved though it may be in some circles). This is curious, and I believe, to the point of this discussion. Anderson has 50+ best-sellers to his credit. It seems nearly insane to comment. But I haven't read or listened to any of the 50 odd to this point and am disinclined. It is hard to argue with success. Why are we? And yet, I do. There are an awful lot of balls to keep in the air to be a successful writer I think. I would like to get the hang (of it). This of pacing is interesting, both of the work itself and, let's be honest, of release dates. I LOVE "the Song of Fire and Ice" but I wonder if I will ever see the end of it. LSO |
