Hello tebbuch and welcome to Writing.Com. Yes, it is possible and permitted to include illustrations within a post but to add them as image you need to have at least upgraded membership. For more info about it you can read in "Free and Paid Membership Benefits" from "Writing.Com 101" .
Another way to post offsite pictures and illustrations is if you just copy url of it and paste it within your post but they won't be in your portfolio and you would have to do it everytime you have new post in forum or anywhere else. For example, these link-images that you can see within my reply to you here are all stored in my portfolio and I managed them as my signatures here and everytime I post into any forum here I don't need to go to my portfolio and look for them everytime because they are stored as my signtures. .
