I needed a map, and my urban fantasy setting is the "hidden side" of an existing unnamed southwestern city, so I wound up using the 'My Maps' feature on Google Maps to save a map with all the important points marked, using the actual city I'm using as the model.
Even though I'm doing a fantasy story, this would be a handy thing for someone doing a 'real world' story. You can build up a map with important places marked, boundary lines drawn, routes drawn, whatever you need.
