A warm welcome to our newbies; come meet new and not-so-new members of Writing.Com! |
Hi BookPixie83 . First, welcome to Writing.com! If you're an avid reader, there's enough here to keep you busy for a very veeery long time. Second, I'm sorry to hear about your health problems - the good news is, you will find this place quite welcoming and supportive. We are more like a big family than just a website, which is wonderful. I stumbled upon WdC about a year and a half ago and I've been on every day since! To familiarize yourself with this place, I would suggest "Writing.Com 101" - there's a wealth of knowledge there, and it will help make your life easier when navigating this place (which can be daunting the first time). Get to know the main menu (on the left) and your portfolio (don't forget to set up your bio when you have a moment). I would also suggest just browsing through the newsfeeds posts and see what people are doing. It will give you a pretty good idea of the events we have - yep! We have events! Things like contests, auctions, raffles, role playing campfires etc. As for your writing, you can post anything you want. Poems, short stories, chapters/books, essays etc. You can post them in whole and polished, or you can post them bit by bit - it's up to you The feedback process is also simple - start reviewing other people's work (don't forget to follow the review guidelines - in 101). The more you review, the more people will see you and start reviewing your work in return. My first two months here I just did reviewing. As you integrate yourself more into the site, you will start getting lots of feed back. Asking for advice and help directly is okay, but I would recommend waiting for that until you've got your "presence" out there a bit more . There's also the "Review Request" tool, which means you can find a member, pay gift points, and they will review your piece according to their review style. Here are some other site groups that are fantastic for newbies: "Newbies ONLY Short Story & Poem Contest" "Newbies - Pick then Click" "Newbie Help And Support Review Central" "The Newbie Research Center" If you have any questions, or need any help, just give me a shout!
