It is a great way, for sure. I've done NaNoWriMo for 8 years so far, though I didn't get far the first two years. I went from having 23k being my longest novel draft to writing 165,000 words of a YA fantasy novel one year. Last year didn't quite work out but hopefully this year I can make it.
