Hello Stephanie *Smile*

Your friend was correct; there are loads of resources and activities here. As you start this new path on your writing journey you will learn and grow at whatever pace you set for yourself. One of the best sections to refer to is up at the very top, just below your browser bar called "Writing.Com 101" Open in new Window.. I still use it for reference as I need.

Once you feel comfortable enough to share any of your work, all you need to do is create an item in your portfolio. Instructions for doing this is in the WdC101 page listed above.
