Re: OT PLug page
by Past Member 'northernwrites'
The two Plug pages are divided by content rating of the items posted, not by age.

The Plug page header says two times that there are two pages and which to use for what, and the entry box repeats the limitations a third time.

I've been fielding questions about the plug pages for almost 7 years, and very few people don't understand the directions once they actually stop and read them. Most understanding-it problems occur because people didn't read the Content Rating directions when they created their item.

More than a few people don't bother to read the directions carefully before using the site, including the plug pages. So changing the directions is not likely to make any appreciable difference in the number of incorrect posts to be removed.

When someone does not understand the directions posted on a particular page or feature, they always have the option of posting a question in either support forum - "Technical Support Forum or "Non-Technical Support Forum - and specifying what they don't understand - before they try using it. For the Plug pages specifically, there is also "Plug Page Help. Very few people make use of this option.

For those who prefer to learn in the school of experience, there is no site penalty for occasionally messing up with a post on the plug pages as long as it isn't repeated persistently.

For many genres, what they include/exclude is a matter of opinion. It's general knowledge, not something the site defines or controls, so searching the internet for a definition that makes sense to you is how those questions would be resolved. Using the Keywords section of your item allows you to specify more details than the given genre choices, or to include more if you can't decide which applies.

If the author doesn't get a genre label "correct", it may be harder for their intended audience to find the work, but there is no additional penalty. Reviewers might choose to comment on it, but it's up to the author to do the research so they can decide whether or not to change those settings.

Hope that helps
