Noticing Newbies

Newbie is right.
We used to call 'em fish. I'm at the stage where any advice will probably be news to me.
I'm a retired psychologist (Ph.D., University of Missouri, 1979). Yes, the university was opened back then. I'm a little sensitive about my age.
I worked for in various settngs, but he last twenty five years as a prison psychologist, Colorado Department of Corrections. I've met more rapists and murderers than most.
Well, maybe I'm not a total Newbie.I've written a lot, sold very little. Fiction, mostly, though I'm working on an account of a couple of geezers driving the Alaska Highway. Six weeks, ten thousand miles, the Retirement! statement.Self-published a couple of books on Kindle that sold in the single digits. It could be because they suck. I'm looking for critiques and comments.
I'd love to land an agent, like everyone else, I suppose. I think I need critiques first, to figure out if I'm wasting my time.
I wrote a novel about an ex-con who held a grudge and decided to seek revenge on prison staff when he killed his number. Most of my writing is fairly mainstream, though with some kind of paranormal twist. I have a series about a group of social science researchers who come back to 2006 and get stuck. Another about a man who can stop time by holding his eyebrows just right. Too weird?
