Writers everywhere have trouble writing a synopsis. I like this link that takes you through all the basics. It might seem like extra work to have the chapter-by-chapter breakdown first, but I find that useful for editing as well as focusing the narrative toward the end.
This year I wrote a synopsis instead of a query letter. I'm out of my comfort zone with it, but it's a valuable tool moving forward. I know what I want to say with the novel. Sort of! I don't have chapters exactly planned out, but I do have a bunch of ways to twist the story events together.
Has anyone else tried the synopsis instead of the query letter?
