This reminds me of an interview I once watched of Ursula K. LeGuin. She said she just couldn't write antagonists, so her works often didn't have clear villains. If you look at "Lathe of Heaven" for example, the only real candidate for Villain is the therapist, and he's more of a victim of his own egomania than anything else.
