As for finishing the idea, the only advice I can give is to write it down. Start writing, brainstorm, and then write. It doesn't matter if the end is bad or the middle drags. All that is supposed to be fixed while revising.
You'll get plenty of help here. But to get that help, you need to add something to the portfolio first. Go on, and add.
