A warm welcome to our newbies; come meet new and not-so-new members of Writing.Com! |
Morning All, I am new to this site. I just found out about it from one of my FB friends who recently finished her fist novel. I was very excited and happy for her huge accomplishment, but it got me thinking about the lame duck I've been in procrastinating on my own writing. I come to writing in a round about way from my travels as a high school Science teacher. I taught several years in Malaysia, Kuwait and in Northern Alberta on First Nations Reservations. My writing is based on my experiences of living and teaching in those places. One of my favourite authors is Somerset Maugham. He travelled a great deal too and have read all of his works. Another favourite author is Nevil Chute who wrote A Town Like Alice. I've read most of his works too. So it would be safe to say that my style of writing is very similar to theirs. While I was in Kuwait, I read a lovely little book called the Bookseller of Kabul, written by (can't recall) either a Danish or Swedish girl who lived with a Muslim family who owned a book shop. The title really resonated with me which led me to entitle my book as The Taxi Driver of Kuwait. My book takes the form of letters to home which outline my experiences over there. Cheers, |
