I think it's best to keep it at eight. I say that you should have auditions open until Dec 15th if you don't get enough, but maybe the actual round doesn't start until like January 3rd or something? That gets your auditions in plus time for holidays and a little to judge as well. Or maybe that's what you were planning to do in the "December 15th" option. Whatever works best for you: I don't really have any set schedule that should bug me.
