A month-long novel-planning challenge with prizes galore. |
So I had to give this some thought. Since I'm writing a second book in a series, I kinda have my market figured out with the first book. Although this year's NaNo project doesn't have a big of a focus on family. Soooooo, here's what I'm thinking my average market for BOTH books in the series is going to be: - Young girls My daughter being the target age for this group at age 11. The Harry Potter type that devour anything revolving magic or wizards. She loved the first one, so I'll have to keep her in mind for any others. - Adult females I want to say "those with kids", but I don't think I want to limit it to that. So we'll instead say mid-20s and up. Why not younger? Because I want to hit on those adult females who know what "real world" is, and what kind of struggles an individual might face on their own. I feel like this target group will latch on to the main character a lot easier than others would. Notice I didn't say teen girls? There's a reason for that. Mostly because I feel it's a very specific market, and something I'm not comfortable targeting. Granted I have a teen girl in the house that is an AMAZING writer and I get feedback from, but I still don't think targeting her age group is a good idea. Just too much of a wild card for my taste. I also didn't say male at all, and that's because I feel like the story is too "emotional" for a guy to really care much. Not saying I'd ignore these people, just that I want to focus on the two groups above. |
