I listened to Ann Patchett speak once, at her alma mater for her MFA, the University of Iowa. She did a reading from her book Run which I have been interested in reading but apparently not enough to pick up in the last couple years. (Kids, I swear!) However, she is known for always cranking out one more chapter in the time most of the other students thought about it, or talked about it, or maybe wrote a sentence or two. She is definitely worth emulating, and her writing tips are good.
I write because I have something to say (#3), and I have been learning how to say it better every time I pick up another how-to book or type another snippet.
