Two pieces of music that mean I could never agree with your view that the lyrics are the most important are 'Hall of the Mountain King' by Grieg and the '1812 Overture' by Tchaikovsky. When I listen to either one, I am inspired. Both make me want to write. I love listening to them. If you're not familiar, especially with the former, do listen to it. See what you think. If you do like the Grieg one, another favourite by him is 'Morning' which might suit a 'melancholic mood' although it's not depressing.
Having said all that, you shouldn't care what others listen to or what they think you should like. Be yourself. I admire that stance.
