I made a Writer's Cramp entry that was about a couple of backwoods brothers hunting some varmints. I didn't actually put in any flavored words in because it is distracting (oh I have a story about space pirates where they did use flavored words, one day I will edit it and fix that). Anyway, all the research I did was from a website this real life backwoods hunter made that was the source and inspiration for the story. I was able to pick out a lot of how they spoke by how they wrote. The author of the website did not use any flavored words, but I swear, as I read it I could hear his accent. And once he was "in my head", writing a conversation between two hillbillies came easily, and I didn't use any flavored words (except maybe "ain't" but that isn't strictly a hillbilly word).
