Owner’s dilemma


“I think it’s good for us to follow the neighbor and give our site for developing.”

“You want to emulate that measly idiot?”

“How do you think I can deal with our homestead with my creeping age and children away?”

“You have to decide between the freedom of living on your patch of land which you’ve earned with honest sweat or live in a cubby hole called a flat the rest of your life, thanks to the irony called “development.”

“It’s not easy to make life changing-decisions.”

“Phil, you’re unduly worried imaging nonexistent problems like lack of security and loneliness.”

“We won’t give our house for development.”

“May I know why just for curiosity sake?”

“That kid Johnny next door made me see light. When I told him about it, he felt sorry that he could no longer bring his friends for an occasional picnic in our garden, no longer play ball or cricket in our backyard and that he would miss the magnolia, the big oak, the flowers, the birds and the delicious chickpeas among other vegetables we grow.”

“And I would also miss my earth, my fresh air and the visible seasons as they appear in my trees and the open sky.”
