Groundskeepers, poachers, chandlers (candlemakers), grooms, leatherworkers, butchers, brewers, weavers, shepherds, tax collectors and excisemen (police who tracked smugglers), smugglers, carriage builders, pawnbrokers, gatekeepers (they worked for the government on toll roads), and...phew, I'm getting tired...just read a Georgette Hyer novel, or any of the Sharpe novels. ;)
