I reached my hand out and touched the rough stone wall smelling the musty air. I turned to look back fearful that the beast had found me, because if he did he would kill me. At least that is what I feared what would happen if I was captured. The ruler of this maze was cruel and clever, easily finding my hiding spots. There was another girl trapped in this wretched hell hole, but we had been separated. I desperately wanted to find her again and running down a long hallway finally saw her. Jessica was young like me, but her dark skin made it even harder to find her. I watched her slowly back up not noticing me at all. The Minotaur had found her and she was trapped. “Jessica!” I watched as her attention turned to me. Frantically I began to wave my arms as the beast came into view. It was so tall its head almost hit the ceiling, body covered in fur and two horns protruded from its head. I could hear the huff’s of its heavy breath and the clanks of the hooves hitting the ground. Then it charged at me and I was the one being chased. I ran too scared to look back, but I had to know if I had a lead or was the Minotaur getting too close. Looking over my shoulder I knew I had a good lead, but that was not going to last. I took a right turn and noticed a small crevice on the wall. Quickly I hid in a small gap, jamming my body and holding my breath waiting for the beast to pass by. First I could hear its hooves, then I could hear its breath and I could tell it was sniffing the air. Slowly the sounds grew closer until I knew it was just outside where I was hiding. Terrified I waited if the Minotaur would move on or find me. My life hung by a thread and finally the beast moved on and I stood still until the noises were far away. Sneaking out I ran back to where I had last seen Jessica, but like normal the hallways had changed. This twisting maze never stayed the same and it was easy to get lost. I ran down a new hallway this one was made of glass and before me was a light. In one second I knew that was the way out, but where was Jessica? I wondered if I should just leave by myself, but there was the risk if I left there would be no way back. I stood pondering the question and then I heard the Minotaur behind me. |
