Two samples here. First one is from the piece i mentioned earlier. It's a short story called "Those Left Behind", set in the grim universe of Warhammer 40k. If you like it, please take the time to look at the whole thing. The second is from the inspiring and inquisitive mind of my best mate William Storey, who's mind i am determined to understand, no matter what... Extract 1 Gambit dropped into the trench and cut the shoulder from a cultist with a swift blow from his chain sword. Blood spattered his uniform and his face, but he blinked and ignored it. A hulking brute of a cultist ran at him with two long, curved blades. Gambit lifted his bolt pistol to fire, only to find the cultist’s head not there anymore. Gunnery-Captain Osbourne dropped into the trench beside him, slamming another plasma cartridge into his plasma gun. “That’s nineteen I counted, sir.” He grinned, pointing a thumb over his shoulder into no man’s land. “Twenty three.” Gambit replied, putting a bolt round through the cultist with the missing arm, who was now writhing on the floor. “They’re sending in reinforcements from the reserve lines, we’d better start laying charges and making defences.” Extract 2 Walking up the high-street, just past the town hall, Will tapped me on the shoulder. "You know what?" He said in a pondering manner. "Which what?" I replied, because, as you know, there are many whats in this world, and he could have been elaborating any one of them. Will then continued. "What if a madman ruled the entire world?" At this point he threw up his arms to elaborate. "What?!" I replied in disbelief. "Think about it." He continued, "There's no Government, no commonwealth, anywhere in the world. There's just this one madman ruling the entire world." "There would probably be a lot of weird laws." I replied in a laid-back fashion. It was, after all, a sunny Wednesday lunchtime, and i was very laid-back. It was then that we started to debate and argue over said weird laws. One of the most interesting laws we discussed occurred later, when i had just withdrawn some cash from the bank. As i turned away, i found the latest weird law put right to my face. "What if this madman banned death?" Will asked in a carefree, and slightly dazed, manner. "A lot of ex-people would end up in prison..." i replied, trying not to laugh too hard. Please give me feedback on both, and read on if you like them. |
