I think it would be great to establish a page of settings for members to decide what the cut off point is for their advertising budget. Let's say they have 500k GPs but only want to spend 100k GPs on sponsoring items. They would have to be nearby the computer to closely monitor it because there is no setting for it to automatically cut off the bids until you have less than 10 times the amount spent per click (something close to that I believe). While this is not the site's responsibility, but what if the member is gone for a whole hour and there was just a mad burst of traffic through to that item and all of his GPs were spent in that? Why not have a page of options allowing the member to decide what the cap-off limit is for how much they want to use on advertisements? It gives the member the right tools to efficiently manage this portion of their account. Another idea would be to give members the ability to choose the cap-off limit for how many clicks they get (or reviews - depending on the type of item they choose to advertise). I think having a cap-off limit might actually encourage members to sponsor someone else's item from time to time. It would also make it easier for groups, associations, or contests to establish a budget for promoting members' works and don't have to worry about having to closely monitoring the item and their GPs. After all, we only have one pool for the GPs to be stored. We can't split it all up into various accounts like checking and savings (that could even be a neat idea to try out: the more gift points you spend rewarding others in the community, you get extra in return for those acts of kindness and encouragement.). Sorry, I get pretty carried away with pretty much anything that involves marketing lol |
