Re: VAL'S JUNE NL -- VOICE LESSONS

SWITCH TO TWO SUBJECTS --- Below find a comment on VOICE.

1. Meantime starting out with what writers often announce ... uh, raised hand, with something to say. Maybe you too may --- Do the sweep ... first came Yahoo, then came Youtube, then came ??? Sorry, hate adverting these but am blown away noticing how often they are referred to on television and almost every hour of every day by many -live- talking heads. No offense intended. Doubtful this late in the game that all readers of this closed forum will take this to mean wc, will misconstrue as a critic of wc. If so then clone thinking has overcome some. Others need not worry, mature readers generally don't over read things into statements, nor should they.

Imagine if you will, a world far away, where many people in today's busy complex of establishments, cities, towns countrysides, states and countries --- those so inclined feel that posting (commenting) sharing whatever on a 'social networking site' bears challenges of writing daily to a closed crowd or the entire world who may read (e.g) facebook. Where they -- whoever? --- then dub this 'writing' and become listed in some places, by some (friends) of those or aka friends of and on facebook.

Other people, OP call this a waste of time. Of course when the day and age arrives, as it already has, when media outlets such as news channels, ISPs, newspapers, (etc) Public Radio, radio stations (etc) and online search engines monopolize by ownership, by the corporations, one may see a shameful aspect explode due to one-sidedness surrounding a fad like, acceptable, growing lack of competition. Thus the protest jingle runs: "When Mass Media is owned by the Corporations, this spells death to democracy."

But then too, to each his own. We tend to see less here on good old basic wc and for members that could be rather a shame.

Subject 2.
Now ... RE: VOICE --- for a sub addition, a fast track version according to: HODGES' HARBRACE HANDBOOK -- Thirteenth Ed from Harcourt Brace College Publishers c-rt 1998 ...

From: Chapter Seven --- VERBS p. 80

"Voice indicates the relationship between the action of the verb and the subject."

(Actually, would edit out all "the-s" above.)

HARBRACE: "Active Voice emphasizes the subject as doer of the action."

Understandably, we may shoot for an opposite.

HARBRACE: "Passive voice demphasizes the doer of the action .... and makes the subject the receiver."

And, heavens to Betsy, for one, I seriously adore Val's sample sentences for their witty, and attention getting content. Whenever one writes on writing subjects, or grammar -- the latter which can be extremely dry --- best to achieve presentation of at least some startling stuff.

Thanks for the NL, Val.

Myself? Wondering why this ADCLUB or CLUB doesn't like to use this forum, read it or whatever, lately. Ah, hell maybe a must do mustdomustdo thingy like as in: as if --- the fb fiasco has bitten them like bees, hovering into the must-do-must-do instigation of ??? Unreasonableness?

It's me, Val, people probably don't like me. Just so we know it is not you, hon. What often happens is --- folks take a chance to catch up, write directly to one (etc.). One thing we do know is that writers who take the time deserve compliments.

Plus, CLUB's mission statement notes a relaxed, don't have to do anything course. When, I heard only from a few re: My Stephen King NL ... well, I remain truly surprised.

So, we stay the course, I guess.

Good show, Val!
