Hey there! That's a good question you've got. One I've wrestled with myself. On the one hand, I don't want so much exposure to my work that if it is ever picked up by a publisher that it won't go anywhere because it's already there (not to mention all the other things that can happen to something once it's online). However, every writer does need their work reviewed/critiqued. WDC is a great place for that I've found, with lots of members, contests, groups and so on. And if you don't live in a big city with a dedicated writing community, or even if you do your particular genre might not be well represented, then where else are you to go to get the reviews you need?
Also, take this into consideration: Scott Lynch, author of the fantasy novel The Lies of Locke Lamora and its subsequent, ongoing series, got published because he was putting his stuff online.
