A warm welcome to our newbies; come meet new and not-so-new members of Writing.Com! |
What is it? How is it judged? What are the rules? When I first posted a piece of writing on WDC, I said it was "Other" because I didn't know exactly what is considered an essay. Now I am boldly calling my works: essays! But I really don't know what an essay is . . . or what a monologue is . . . And then we look at poetry . . . I am old, I can remember way back when poetry use to rhyme! I am not sure but I think that change when I was a kid . . . but it could have change before that. Is an essay suppose to be limited to a certain number of paragraphs or words. What are the various kinds of poems? What are the rules for the various forms. Are lyrics poems? So far, the most noticeable affect of this site on my life is that I now have a really good insight into how much I do not know!! Should there be a comma between really and good? No! I figured that out for myself -- really is an adverb modifying the adjective good! My high school English teacher would be so proud! Seriously, is there somewhere on this site for me to find out these things? And what exactly is a 55 word story?? And is this the right place to be posting these questions?????
