It doesn't have to be about politics persay. It's a look into the world your characters live in.
Mine for example. One is about a princess and so the political setting is a Monarchy since her father is the king.
The other one is more, present day ... ish... (not including president bush or any specifics) in the United States. So, I wrote about it being a democratic republic.
That's all you really have to do. And you can add that politics aren't an important issue in your plot if you want.
