A sanctuary for weary writers, inky wretches, and aspiring professional novelists. |
When I first started writing my main fantasy series, I was 15. I wrote roughly 3 books and reveled in my standard "Tolkeinish soap-opera" of dozens of emotionally troubled characters(my Husband calls them psychotic, but I cannot bring myself to call them such). Then I discovered the backstory. Convinced that the story must start at the beginning, (just over a thousand years previous) I have spent the last 5 years writing and revising two of the four books of backstory. I spent 2 years on revising and cleaning book I and eagerly started submitting it to publishers - a first for me! Publication, here I come! However, now, after a lot of feedback, serious thought and reflection, I admit that no matter how I decorate it, the backstory has no truly satisfactory end. Since I want readers to continue to read my stuff, I have decided to abandon the backstory and return to cliche chaos of where I started. Yet, the entire world and reality needs an overhaul - as well as an actual plot! Part of me feels like I've definitly been sent back to "the drawing board", but someone seems to have set it aflame. A quiet voice inside whispers that I shall rip out the foundations and build anew - this time stronger, better and greater. The years spent on the backstory will not be wasted for I have grown so much, but I would be a fool to pretend that I feel no frustration. To feel so close - so close and yet so far. -Renegade ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Check out my book website! http://www.bladeofdreams.com Has lots of cool stuff: artwork, character profiles sample chapters and more! ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Check it out!
