During my research I came across a reference to a skald, which at first I thought was a weird reference to Skuld, either a princess or demi-god, depending on what legend you're looking at.
Anyway, a skald is a poet. They composed the bits of poetry that survived to today and were kinda known for their mocking satires. I don't know that wiki really does the term justice, but if you're looking for an added edge to your char, this might work. Being a poet was actually very common, even some kings were considered skalds, and it was something respected and admired in an age where the people passed the time telling stories and singing songs and such. Of course, make fun of the wrong person and it could be 'off with his head' but who's complaining?
