Controversial Topic Discussion

I was born and raised in the Midlands, the central counties of England, the birth-place of the industrial revolution. I share my cultural heritage with iconic figures such as William Shakespeare, Sir Edgar Elgar, Neville Chamberlain, J R Tolkien, W H Auden and Arthur Conan Doyle.

At the heart of the Midlands, is Birmingham; where, in April 1968, another famous Midlander delivered his infamous “Rivers of Blood” speech when he predicted grave consequences for lax immigration policies. It is projected that by the year 2025, the white, Anglo-Saxon genre will be a minority group in Birmingham. Or, we will become an ethnic minority in our own city, in our own country.

Is this bad thing?

Absolutely not. The cultural diversity of my city makes me proud. It is exciting, sometimes challenging, always changing. I live in one of the most tolerant societies on the planet. If we can’t make it work, no one can. Immigration, with control, is a positive thing, in my opinion.
