That is all the definition that we need for the word we are to consider. We have not been asked to consider illegal immigration, defection, or those coming as refugees. Immigration is a legal process that starts with application for permission to move to a country. This is generally done on a trial basis to make sure that the person is coming in to their new country with the intentions of bettering themselves, and adding greatness to the country into which they are coming. By greatness I mean a person who will be honest in all their endeavors, will hold down fruitful employment, and will live according to the laws of our land.
A person who enters our country legally, and with the intentions of being a model citizen in my opinion is an immigrant. Immigration is not only needed for the good of individuals, but for families, and for countries.We therefore should not look at immigration with disdain, but we should seek to better the safegaurds that are in place to protect our country. We should seek better ways of keeping people from entering our country illegally. We should seek better ways of defining refugee, and we should seek better ways of making sure all aspects of immigration are adhered to.
We are a country of immigrants, with the exception of the American Indian who was already here when we arrived. To seek to do away with immigration totally would be the equivalent of denying who we are. "The Melting Pot." Our country was never meant to be one race, to the exclusion of all others. It was never meant to be a place that turned a blind eye to inhumane treatment of peoples by other countries and dictators. It was never meant to be a country that would allow no one else to prosper within its boundaries. We are a country founded on the principal of immigration. As such, we must destroy the problems within the immigration system in order for all people, including America to be better off.
