Thanks for your very well phrased comments, I like what you have to say. I know that what you say is true as well but I don't know why it costs so much more to go for the death penalty than life in prison...it doesn't seem to make much sense to me...of course neither does the penalty itself.

When you say that all the money is wasted when the sentence is changed from death to life though, I might have to disagree if that money was spent to getting the sentence changed. However, like I said I don't know what that money is for in the first place, do you happen to know?

This is a very touchy topic to anyone who has had family or friend murdered. It is difficult to imagine being in that position and I hope I never am but I'd like to think that I would not want the murderer killed. This may be easier for me to accept as a Catholic because I really believe that it is ultimately God's judgment that matters. At the end of a life sentence or right after an execution it is God who decides whether or not that person will live in heaven for eternity or spend it in hell and that is the important sentence to me. I pray for anyone who has ever been in that position and hope that they don't take offense to the opinions being shared in this forum; we aren't here to judge, just to discuss and learn.
