If you find Stephen Kings books have taken a little bit of a downward path lately, which I think is the consensus here, then check out an English lad by the name of Stephen Laws.
I picked his first three novels in a hidden-away bookshop on the Isle of Wight, and devoured them, one after the other. In my mind he is very well worth the read. Check out Amazon, for Spectre, Ghost Train & The Wyrm - Gideon wasn't bad, Dark Fall was Okay, & The Frighteners was nearly as good as his earlier works - the rest are sitting in a box somewhere, waiting for me to get off my ass and build the shelves .
