Noticing Newbies

I used to write frequently whilst at school and then in my first couple of years at Uni. I haven't had much time recently, though, and am rather out of practice. I'm hoping to get back into it, but I know that I'm rusty, so would very much appreciate any advice and constructive criticism that people feel like providing.
