The title of my post is the title of the book I am currently reading by Welch Everman. If I see his name on another book, with a similar theme I will pass it by. I generally love books of this nature. For instances: Danny Perry's, Cult Movies 1, 2, 3 wonderful. His obvious love of film is infectious. His knowledge lost and beloved classics of the odd and forgotten will make you run out to th local video store in search of gem after gem. Even when you disagree with him, Perry supports his viewpoint in a fun, quickwitted style. Welch Everman has little respect, offers us no insight into history of the movies he has chosen to write about, he does not attempt to discuss any myths the movies may touch upon. And has little respect for most of the films he has written about. An alternate title for the book might have been: Movies I once saw and hated. There are nice stills from each movie and he does tell you the plot of them, afterwards it is why this movie sucks. No I am not looking for a book that does nothing but praise, to write about a subject like cult horror movies and have distain form %95 of then is silly. Admittedly, most of these movies I have never heard of. |
