I think King has matured for lack of a better word. By that I mean he's exploring different styles of horror. Cell is a good example I think. Unlike Carrie for example, which deals with the supernatural, Cell is something almost everyone could relate to if for no other reason, many people own cell phones. The possibility of mass programing isn't really that far from what advertisers actually do. So I think he's looking at horror in a more realistic manner in much of the newer work
