You know, I like Barker too. The first thing I read by him was about a tapestry the came alive or I should say the protagonist entered it. I can't for the life of me remember the name though. It's bee forever since I read it but it stuck in my mind.
As for the Hellrasier series, I think one reason some get turned off by that is it's extremely strong BDSM theme. Personally I don't mind it at all. Pinhead is a truly memorable character with or without the pins
