Dear Frustrated,
Hey . . . that sounds like my kids! No, seriously – I can definitely understand why that’s frustrating you. I think we probably all have times when we can display OCD-like symptoms, to one degree or another.
When it starts to interfere with functioning, it needs to be dealt with. The thing about compulsions is, well . . . they’re compulsions. I’m not sure there’s any way to harness their energy for good purpose.
It may be that he just needs some help refocusing (that’s what I do with my kids!

) or it may be that he could benefit from speaking with a professional to be evaluated. As I said, if it’s interfering with his functioning (which doesn’t seem to be an issue at work, from what you’ve said) then it ought to be dealt with.
In the meantime . . . if you need a break, you need to make sure you get one!
