I'm right with you on that one Traveler. I have to admit that one of the best scare films I've seen has to be The Haunting of Hill House - it still makes me uneasy today, even though I've become somewhat anesthetised by the all gore. Though I liked the 1999 remake, I would always watch the original, if I had the choice. Staying on the haunting theme another oldie (1973) that I really enjoyed, and still do, is The Legend of Hell House - can you really knock a film with Roddy McDowall in it? And just the other week we caught An American Haunting (and though it suffers terribly from the too quiet talking scenes - so you turn the sound up to hear the script - it then blares so loud that the dog five doors down starts barking at the racket), this is a good film, it builds tension and atmosphere well, just like the oldies. It put a cold shiver in my spine which spread slowly through my body, until the film climaxed. I'd recommend it to everyone - as I would The Haunting of Emily Rose. If you haven't seen these films - give 'em a try and let us know what you think. Come join me - We all float down here. Pennywise. |
