So what can I say about books - well, I LOVE 'EM, that's a start. At the moment, I'm reading Whitley Strieber's "Night Church": It isn't too bad at the moment. but the writing style isn't up to his other books I've read - and I have to say that "Cat Magic" is one of my favourites. Before that I decimated King's "The Cell" which I would gladly recommend to everyone. It isn't his best work as, I believe, he could've done a lot more with the idea of Cell phones than he did. That is mainly left in the dark because the main character has another, more compelling, objective - his concern isn't to understand the ins 'n' outs of the disaster. The way that Mr Kings writing flows just carries you, effortlessly from the beginning to the end. It is in the same vein as "The Stand" - a group of people have to get from where they are to one specific destination, and though the journey is arduous for them, it isn't for the reader. It's also nice that some of the harshness and bleakness, that appeared after his nasty ice-cream van run-in, is finally starting to lessen. This hasn't got the same clawing nastiness as Dreamcatcher (which I think is one of his darkest books - even surpassing The Dark Half). We're back in the land of "It may be alright in the end." I loved the HELL right outta it. Wes Craven - you have to give him "The Last House on the Left", "The Hills Have Eyes" (parts 1 & 2) and especially "Nightmare on Elm Street" - even "Red Eye" wasn't too bad. Notice though that these are the man's movies. But, Oh dear, what happened with Fountain Society? I saw the man's name on the cover and thought, yeah, I'll give that a go. Now I have this habit (I only wear it at weekends ), once I start a book I HAVE to finish it. Though it's only around 350 pages long (and not in small type - and please take into account I have trudged through War & Peace) it took me over three months to read. Not because it was hard going, just that within ten minutes of reading I was sound asleep. Wes please keep directing - I love your films and I thank you for them (Freddie, helped me become the man I am today - only in the good sense, not in the raving psycho sense.) So, when you have an idea for a story please put it on film and not on paper. But that's only my opinion - I'd love to hear other peoples view on the book, if they've read it. So I hope that will get some people talking (or typing) - Love to hear your opinions and thought's. Let us know who your fave Authors are and you Fave Books or stories. If anybody's interested, quite some time ago there was a compilation of short stories bound together and called Scare Care. If you have a chance to pick it up, I recommend doing so - I love short stories, and this book brought some of the best, I've ever read, together. In my eyes a Must Have. Come join me - We all float down here. Pennywise. |
