I think you can find a lot of examples here on wdc. I won't point any out becuase that is beside the point and this is not the forum for such things...

That said it is very true that if they story is good or the characters draw you in then fi the mechanics of the writing are not of excellent or even good for that matter the story can still be readable. I've read several things where I got so involved in the story that I didn't notice the problems with the writing on the first read though.

There have been other stories that the story wasn't so good and it was made worse by the errors in grammar or spelling.

I honestly believe you can have the best writing skills (good grammar, spelling, the mechanics of writing...) but if you don't have a good story to tell then you're done beofore you start.
