I'd rather know - and I'd appreciate the time it took to write a critique or at least give a real reason. On the other hand...form letters are there for your protection and that of the publisher. People will sue over anything, these days, and it's just not that hard for me to imagine someone suing you for "intentional infliction of emotional distress" over an honest rejection. I hate saying that, but the possibility seems very real to me now. I guess because I've seen the utterly crazy way some people (and it only takes ONE nutjob) react to criticism. Imagine what it might be like if there's money or prestige (real or imagined) at stake!?
