He's one of my favorites because of his incredibly unique style, and also because there's never been anything "show-off" about what he writes or plays. His stuff often proves true that "less is more."
John McLaughlin is my other favorite, particularly for his work with Shakti. You can hear (and feel, if you're really listening to the subtle nuances) the influences from every world culture there is.
It was nice to see Frank Zappa in your list, too. I know his lyrics have made him known as a freak and a dirty old man, but he's responsible for some of the most creative and FUN melodies I've ever heard.
