A sanctuary for weary writers, inky wretches, and aspiring professional novelists. |
I started my baby steps into a writing career with plays and managed to get a few produced. That said, there is no money in theatre. It is an almost impossible way to make a living. I have since published a short story and have two novels working themselves through various publishing houses and agents hoping to find a home. I am nearly done the first draft of my next novel now. I also plan on writing a few articles and shipping off a few short stories to magazines in the near future. I feel I should have done this all earlier, but I continually chickened out at the last minute and didn't really understand the process anyway. Now I've found a few good books that have helped a great deal. 1) Formatting and Submitting your manuscript by Cynthia Laufenberg 2) And an up to date copy of the Children's writer's and illustrator's market (any general market book will do and they are available at most libraries). Another good book about submitting your work was called Building Bicycles In The Dark. I don't remember the author but I highly recommend it. The thing I most often repeat after a rejection slip comes is "I guess these people don't want to make any money." A little arrogant, maybe, but it makes me feel better. My plan right now: Write as much as possible, get it all out, and dazzle them with quantity as well as quality. Eventually something has to sell. |
