Sometimes, I think writers are people who've simply found a constructive outlet for never having outgrown their need for imaginary friends - or who have a compulsion to share those imaginary friends with others, without sounding "crazy" or "stupid." And judging by the number of readers who get "lost" in the worlds we create, or "fall in love with" the characters we introduce them to, we're not "crazy" at all.
