I've made the mistake of sharing my writing with family and expecting them to be as enthusiastic and wowed as everyone else I've shown it too. Unfortunately, every single time I've been disappointed. Now I'm more cautious about expecting positive feedback from family. For the most part they don't share my passion and dreams and they don't understand why this is so important to me. Of course they are coming to understand a little but I'm still wary of expecting them to respond the way I want them to.
Friends are a little easier. Most of my friends are online and very supportive of my writing. Many of them are fellow writers. The ones who are are often floored by my writing and are for the most part very positive. The writers are encouraging and supportive and also work hard on their reviews/critiques because they know how important it is to me to improve.
