Bear with it. I know it seems rough and like it's not helping you learn to write at all, but it is helping you in subtle ways. You don't have to explain a higher truth when you write -- heck, a lot of the writers we're forced to study at colleges and universities weren't trying to either -- but understanding how they put all the pieces together and learning to be able to see it will increase your own ability to use such things in your writing.
In the meantime, try not to bloody your head too much on your desk. It's difficult to get blood stains out of wood.
