Actually, the notepad DOES have the regular site background option. Below the text box but above the "save changes" button, it says " Set the default stationery for your NotePad:" and is set as a default at "white_blue". Choose "none" from the very bottom of the pulldown menu and it should load with the site's regular tan background.
