Re: New writer's weakness
Read some books on writing fiction. People will say not to, but you really need to understand what POV is, what a scene is, what a character is, how to do dialogue mechanics, and so much more. It's the great joy of fiction, that it is endless.
Master the tools and rules, then remold them and bend them to your particular style.

I recommend:
Characters and Viewpoint, by Orson Scott Card
On Becoming a Novelist by John Gardner
Self-Editing for Fiction writers by Browne and King (this is for the rewrite stage)
among others.

Most people will critique your grammar and punctuation when they look at your work and call it editing, but it's not. That's called proofreading. Don't worry about that stuff at first.
Just write a story that you'd like to read.

Also, don't try and turn insights into a story. Tell the story and let the insights come through the situation. It's much easier and creates better results. Your view of life will come through in any event.
