I find that I'm like Beren Truthsayer in that I've never really looked at the narrative style in a story. What you say intriges my interest. I'm unlike Beren in that I have no experience to help this discussion along. You've given me an insight that I will have to look into. Expanding knowledge within the craft often stalls out for me until a post like this one gives me a jump start and a direction. Now I will have to go and explore narrative in stories and see what style I tend to fall into and if that might need improving, as I'm sure it will. *Wink*
